The ceremony to award Russian President Vladimir Putin with an honorary doctorate from the Department of History, Archaeology and Cultural Resources Management of the University of Peloponnese has been postponed, according to a Kathimerini newspaper report.
The Kalamata-based university initiative is aimed at strengthening cultural ties between Greece and Russia. However, the ceremony scheduled for February 22 will be postponed.
A Kathimerini newspaper report says that the university administration proposed to the Dean of the School of Humanities and Cultural Studies and the Department of History, Archeology and Cultural Resources Management to postpone the ceremony due to the failure of the Russian President to attend. Later the administration issued an announcement that the event is postponed.
However, when the ceremony was first announced, it was stated that Russian Ambassador to Greece Andrey Maslov would represent president Putin in receiving the honorary doctorate.
